Actress And 'Black-Ish' Star Marsai Martin Signs Deal With Universal Being The First Youngest To Ever Executive Produce A Studio Film

Actress and Black-ish star Marsai Martin made history as the youngest person to ink a deal with Universal to executive produce a studio film. The star will be producing and developing projects for Universal with her production company, Genius Productions. Marsai will be working alongside Joshua Martin (Co-founder), Carol Martin (Vice President) and Prince Baggett (head of creative). 


At age 14, Martin is the youngest person to ever get a deal at Universal and in Hollywood's history. "She is not only tremendously talented in front of the camera but offers a unique perspective as a creator and producer that will resonate with all audiences. We look forward to moviegoers getting to see how brilliant she is in Little and watching her evolve as a filmmaker here at Universal," Peter Cramer, president at Universal Pictures. 


The first film that Marsai and Genius Productions will be developing and producing is StepMonster. The film about a teenage girl who adjusting to life with a new stepmother and has to learn that sometimes the only way to tame a monster is to make peace with it. 


The young star will be starring in a new film with Issa Rae and Regina Hall called Little. Little is centered on a woman who gets the chance to relive the carefree life as her younger self (played by Martin) when the pressures of adulthood become too much. The film hits theaters April 12!

'Shaft' Reboot Trailer Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Richard Roundtree and Jessie Usher

1971 blaxploitation classic film Shaft is getting a reboot starring Samuel L. Jackson. The iconic film will be about a FBI cyber security expert who joins forces with his father - the legendary cop John Shaft - to scour the streets of Harlem, N.Y., and uncover the truth. 


Shaft will star Regina Hall, Richard Roundtree, Jessie Usher, Method Man and Alexandra Shipp. The film is a mix of comedy, action and family drama. 


Directed by Tim Story and co-written by Kenya Barris and Alex Barnow, Shaft will hit theaters on June 14.
